Do you think like a Muslim?

What is the thought process of a Muslim? How did the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), his companions, and our illustrious scholars think and approach issues? How do the scholars of today approach issues that have never been faced before?

There is an Islamic approach to critical thinking, and we can easily apply it to our every day lives.

How will principled thinking help you?

Muslims in a modern western context face some unprecedented challenges. The scholars of today use the same tried and tested tools to solve these challenges that were used by scholars of the past for different challenges.

You can apply those same tools to the issues that you face in your own life. Critical, correct, and principled thinking will give you a framework to understand and approach the challenges that come with being a Muslim in North America.

Foundations of Islam: Principled Thinking

This course is designed to change the way you think by introducing the tools required for critical thinking. Drawing on sources from Islamic logic, juristic principles, and legal maxims, students discover that there is an important relationship between knowledge, thought, and words.

You will Learn to…

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of some of the tools required to contextualize modern ideas through critical thought
  • Articulate relationships between knowledge, thought and language
  • Appreciate the scholarly tradition
